Pandemic Risk Management

Any pandemic has global proportions and COVID-19 is one of them.
Pandemics spread across countries. We’ve heard, if not seen, variations of
pandemics such as virus infections caused by H1N1 (swine flu), Ebola, and
SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), and its global or economic
impact. Therefore project professionals are not taken by surprise in regards to
COVID-19. Let’s look at some steps undertaken by them at the Risk
Management level:

 Priorities must be set across economic and business frontiers.
Project managers should take care of ‘pandemic risk
management for business’ priorities predominantly. Priorities
that are being handled among big project experts nationally for
businesses are health security for all employees and
stakeholders, being contra to the stoppage of business
processes, and continual service for critical customers and
stakeholders.
 In detail, most project managers decide to defer travel in case of
lockdown and in case of no lockdown, to avoid movement in
crowd, and therefore halt people traffic congestion. Only 4 and
6 wheelers allowed for exchange of goods on roads; air travel is
highly restricted accruing to an adverse impact of COVID 19 on
business.
 To teach people to stay at home is a different ball game
altogether as the economy is facing a slump. But ensuring
manpower safety, the project managers see to it that social
distancing is maintained at an eligible distance of persons from
each other, online orders are entertained as people are told to
stay indoors lest the Corona Virus spreads when there is
congestion of people.
 Government advocacy has taken a beating, but project managers
not only take responsibility for businesses they make clear with
all stakeholders & workers that their co-operation is expected
too. The poor and the marginalized have been funded by the
government, but the Virus cases continue to plague humanity.
The wings at the government have been using media to pervade
every nook and corner of human living. Remote opportunities
are being created.

 Liquid hand washers are positioned wherever there is a need for
regular handwashing may be after toilet times or after touching
dirt. Sanitizers with major alcohol content are placed at all entry
and exit points and throughout company units. Supplies of N95
masks are generously made available for all company inmates.
 Fumigations are carried out daily at company premises and
within units before the workers enter the company and while
they are working, cordoning them off at that time to cleansed
units or places. Safety precautions have been made possible so
that every employee and stakeholder doesn’t catch the Virus.

The economy is gradually managing the Virus. Businesses and the
economy are recuperating. However, for loss of traditional sources of
income, the common man is continually at a threat. The economic impact
of Covid 19 continues to improve with officials trying to fund drug
companies & medical research personnel into anti-virus vaccines and
medicines. A long way to go!
